SGT. Henry Johnson Vethouse dedication

We re-dedicated our Vethouse on June 5th to commemorate the life and accomplishments of Medal of Honor recipient Sgt. Henry Johnson, who lived for a time in our neighborhood. The dedication took place at Vethouse in conjunction with the City of Albany's annual Henry Johnson Day.
Charles Chandler memorial scholarship
We awarded a deserving Albany High School senior a $1,000 scholarship. Recipient Zaeqwan Cancer accepted the award at the Henry Johnson Day ceremony.
2017 Year in review
We served nearly 400 veterans, 143 found permanent housing , 40 employment.Our thanks to our community partners, especially Walmart Distribution Center, Home Depot, and SEFCU.
10th Annual Motorcycle Run to Raise Awareness for homeless veterans a success!

Local Community Support for our veterans THIS christmas season
We are receiving unprecedented support from local businesses and individuals to ensure that our veterans have a wonderful holiday. In addition, this year's Waterford Elks party at Vethouse, followed by another party sponsored by Veterans Riders, Walmart distibution Center, and Patriot Riders will bring gifts and cameraderie - and Santa - to the veterans we are serving.

We held our annual breakfast at Vethouse - attended by many supporters and elected officials, and made special with the presentation of a $1,000 donation from the Hammerer family. Their son donated money he earned this summer at his family's business - Broadway Auto. An inspiration.

Returned Veterans
Reintegration Center
We have begun planning for a residential center to serve as a reintegration community for returned veterans. Our vision is that the center will offer comprehensive services: education, jobs assessment, peer support and healing, and re-integration skills.
We are convening focus groups of returned veterans and meetings with state and federal policy-makers to inform our effort. Stay tuned....

We assisted over 500 veterans in need in 2010:
* 44 homeless veterans gained employment
* Permanent supportive housing for 35
*72 housed at Vet House * Advocacy and benefits assistance to over 200 senior veterans
* Established Veterans court in 7 counties: 35+ assisted; 30 other vets assisted with pro bono or case management services
*Peer support to 25 OEF / OIF veterans
*Assisted 35 homeless veterans in obtaining affordable, secure permanent housing
* Assisted 68 veterans with rental assistance / security deposits

Christmas at Vet House
For 13 years the Waterford Cohoes Elks Club has brought Santa and gifts to Vet House. This year's party is Dec. 18 starting at 1pm. Joining them this year with gifts for our residents are Jewish War Veterans.
The following day the Veterans Motorcycle Club will host it's 3rd annual party and giftgiving at Vet House beginning at noon.
Also, the law firm of Tully Rinckey PLLC is generously donating winter coats for Vet House residents during the holiday season.

Homeownership in Sight for Disabled Veteran
Through our efforts a local disabled Vietnam veteran will soon own his first home. The home is currently under construction in the Arbor Hill neighborhood, close to our Veterans House.

We are planning the dedication of our veterans independent transitional home at 280 Clinton Ave. to honor a local WW1 hero, Sgt. Henry Johnson. The home has been operational for 14 years.

We continue training mentors in 7 counties for the veterans court diversion program that we helped develop with the 3rd. Judicial District. Look for it in Albany, Rensselaer, Columia, Greene, Ulster, and Schoharie counties.

Fredia Beatty was recently hired to assist homeless veterans to find employment through our HOMELESS VETERANS REINTEGRATION PROGRAM, funded by U.S. Dept. of Labor. She started February 1.

We start the new year with our Veterans Community advocacy Program (VCAP) in full swing. We welcome Bryan Blanchard to our staff. Bryan is working to implement the court diversion program - VetTrak and is actively assisting returning veterans with peer support. Bryan is a veteran of Iraq.
